Phyllis Ann Lockwood was born on March 2, 1948 to Walter Thomas Baker and wife Clara Josephine (née Coffman) in Green City, MO as the youngest of their five children. Phyllis entered eternal life on February 14, 2023 in Peoria, IL after complications following a long battle with chronic illnesses. Phyllis grew up in rural Missouri until the age of 10 when her parents relocated to Chicago, IL. She graduated from Thomas Kelly High School in January 1966.
Phyllis lived life to her fullest and married the love of her life, James S. Lockwood in March 1979. He preceded her in death on December 31, 2005.
As an avid sports fan and diehard Chicago Bears loyalist, Phyllis made her opinions known about all things related to whatever event was currently on TV! Phyllis can be described as the most vivacious person in any room. Her heart on her sleeve and her soul deeply wounded with the loss of her husband left many scars. May she be at peace as she joins him in eternal life.
Phyllis is survived by her two daughters, Melissa (Scott Heape) Lockwood and Tiffany (Jon) Ward; and four grandchildren: Lauren and James Heape, Beau Holden, and Cora Ward. All reside in the Bloomington/Normal area. She is also survived by three of her siblings, Joyce Moran, Lyndell (Gloria) Baker, and Betty Grinage; along with numerous beloved nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lockwood; both of her parents;one brother, Richard (Patty) Baker; and her dear niece Patti Miller.
A Memorial Gathering for Phyllis Ann Lockwood will be held on Monday, February 20, 2023, at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. As it was her request, cremation rites have been accorded.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society in honor of Phyllis and her late husband Jim.
