Robert “Bob” F. Corcoran
Robert “Bob” F. Corcoran, age 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. Born in Joliet on November 28, 1930 to the late Thomas and Marie Corcoran, Bob was a lifelong Joliet resident. On October 16, 1954, he married Mary Ann Kapellas and the two most recently celebrated 68 years of marriage. Bob worked for 44 years as a bridge operator for both the Rock Island and the CSX Railroads. Bob was a proud member of the Moose Lodge, Knights of Columbus, and the New Lenox Sportsman Club. He was Cub Master for Pack 33, and an assistant Scout Master for Troop 33. He was also involved in the Indian Guides. He enjoyed fishing, train collecting and woodworking. He would build elaborate scenery for his wife’s dance recitals and he was especially proud to build toys for his grandchildren. Papa never missed an opportunity to attend his grandchildren's activities. Bob always enjoyed camping, particularly in his motor home. The highlights of their vacations were trips to Ireland, Greece and Hawaii. He and Mary Ann enjoyed spending the winter at their condo in Florida following their retirement.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann Corcoran; his three children, Tom (Jo Ann) Corcoran, Patrick (Janet) Corcoran and Denise (Pat) Pudwill; his five grandchildren, Rob (Claire) Corcoran, Alex (Elizabeth) Corcoran, Erin (Adam) Hoeger, Jacob Pudwill and Joshua Pudwill; his brothers, Lawrence (Kay) Corcoran and Daniel Corcoran; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Paul Kapellas.
Visitation for Bob Corcoran will be Sunday, February 26, 2023 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black (at Essington) Rd., Joliet. Funeral services will be the following morning, Monday, February 27, 2023, leaving the funeral home chapel at 9:15 a.m. and proceeding to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Entombment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville.
