Obituary of Norbert Stanley Budz
Norbert Stanley Budz, age 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 22, 2023, at Park Pointe Healthcare and Rehab Center in Morris, IL.
Norbert was born on January 2nd, 1937, in Chicago, IL, where he was raised in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. He was the son of the late Stanley and Helen (nee Filipiak) Budz. He spent most of his years with his late wife Mary in Oak Lawn, IL, where they attended St. Gerald Catholic Church. Through many years of marriage, they enjoyed traveling the country together with dear friends before retiring to Monticello, IN in 2004.
Norbert is survived by daughter, Lita (the late Robert) Mason of Park Falls, Wisconsin; his grandchildren Jessica O'Leary, Katie Knight and D.J. O'Leary; great-grandchildren Antonio Moy, Brayden Domenico, Dezhon and Jeremiah Knight. He will also be missed by several other relatives and and friends.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Mary, as well as his parents.
After retirement, he enjoyed attending his grandkids school and sporting events. You could also find him at the local high school basketball and football games, even though he knew no one playing! He also enjoyed fishing, as well as his annual cousin’s golf outing that he looked forward to every year. On weekends, he would putt around local garage sales for treasures he could fix up and sell at his own garages sales. He was an avid sports memorabilia collector as well. He would always tell the stories of how he would skip class in high school to go sit on the bench at Comiskey Park and hang with all the major league players. He was well on his way to being a MLB pitcher until an injury sidelined his career.
Visitation for Mr. Budz will be Thursday March 30, 2023 from 9 a.m. until funeral services begin at 11 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road in Joliet, IL.
All are welcome to join Norbert's family for the interment and committal prayers at 1:30 p.m Thursday afternoon at Evergreen Cemetery in Evergreen Park, IL. For those wishing to attend, please meet at the cemetery office at 1:15 p.m.
