Obituary of Effie Galatis
Effie Galatis, age 74, late of Minooka, and formerly of Justice, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at home, with her loving family by her side.
Born January 29, 1949 in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late George and Ourania Matos. Effie worked as an agent and bill collector in the finance industry for many years.
Effie was loving and caring mother and grandmother who had a sweet personality and always put the needs of other before her own. A perfect day for her would be going out for breakfast followed by time spent shopping.
She is survived by her loving and devoted children, Maria (Chris) Skweres of Minooka, IL, and Gerasimos "Jerry" Galatis of Plainfield, IL; and three adoring grandchildren, Haralambos “Robert” Galatis, Georgene Skweres and Steve Skweres; one great-grandson, Gerasimos; two sisters, Maria Aragon and Joanne Juarez; two nieces, Rachel Aragon and Connie Borrelli; and two nephews, Peter Juarez and Monty Juarez.
Visitation for Effie Galatis will be held Sunday, May 7, 2023 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet, where Trisagion services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Monday, May 8, 2023 at 8:30 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 10301 S. Kolmar Avenue, Oak Lawn, IL for services at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Joliet, IL.
