Obituary of Wayne Pryor
Wayne Pryor, age 70, of Joliet (formerly Chicago), passed away suddenly at St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet on May 3, 2023. Wayne was born in Chicago on August 23, 1952 to John Henry Pryor and Georgia Francis Pryor (nee Sisk). He provided for his family with his career as a punch press mechanic at American National Can Company, and concluded his career as a furnace operator for Metalmatic until his retirement in 2016.
Wayne was a devoted baseball fan, so much so that he was able to walk that fine line of rooting for both the Chicago White Sox as well as the Chicago Cubs, which is no small feat in the Chicagoland area. His devotion to baseball could only be surpassed by his love for his wife, children, and grandchildren. He worked tirelessly in his career to provide for his family, and then he worked even harder coaching his three boys to reach their fullest potential in baseball, but also in many other sports as well. His impact on the community becomes obvious when one considers that even to this day, Wayne is fondly known as “coach” to so many area residents who grew up with the pleasure of having been led by him on the playing fields. He will be remembered fondly by his dear wife, his children and his grandchildren who will never be able to see a scratch-off lottery ticket again without thinking of him. He will be sorely missed.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Patricia Pryor (nee Ingrum), his children Darrell Pryor Jr. (LoriAnn), Michael Pryor (Maria), and Nicholas Pryor. His grandchildren Jessica Lynn, Michael David, Ariana Patricia, Destany Rose, and Nicholas Jr. His siblings Michael Pryor (Sandy) and Peggy Sizemore. Many nieces, nephews and dear friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Rebecca Teclaw, Martha Damrod, Joyce Schultz, Patsy Pryor, and Brenda Arriaga.
