Obituary of Raymond E. Sicinski
Raymond E. Sicinski, of Shorewood, passed away peacefully, at the age of 89, on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at StoryPoint in Romeoville, surrounded by the love of his family. Ray was born on March 8, 1934, in Joliet, the son of the late Edward and Catherine (nee Pavesich) Sicinski. Born and raised in Joliet, he was a graduate of Joliet Catholic High School with the class of 1951. He attended Joliet Junior College and went on to receive his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Public Service from Governor's State University. Ray graduated in 1977 from the Federal Bureau of Investigation Academy, 109th Session. He served with the United States Army from 1954-56 in Korea, where he earned a Good Conduct Medal.
Ray was a police officer for the City of Joliet for over 30 years and was fondly referred to as "Big Dad." Ray also served as President of the Joliet Police Pension Fund, a Director of the Metropolitan Area Narcotics Squad, and Commander of the Patrol Division. His professional memberships included the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #58, Illinois Police Association, and the Police Benevolent and Protective Association of Illinois. He was also a more than 50 year member of American Legion Post #1080. He enjoyed motorcycle riding and traveling the country in his RV.
Raymond is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary V. (nee Jones) Sicinski; two children, Laura (Steve) Spiva of Peoria, AZ and Michael (Christine) Sicinski of Plainfield; six grandchildren, Abby (Brandon) Kaminski and Jon Sicinski; Ben (Madi) Ballard, Annie, Sam and Maggie Ballard; three great-granddaughters, Inge, Elli and Siggi Ballard; sister-in-law, Caroline Sicinski of Joliet; brother-in-law, Raymond (Marilyn) Jones of Naperville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded by his parents, Edward and Catherine (nee Pavesich) Sicinski; father and mother-in-law, Francis and Mary (nee Breen) Jones; his brother, Karl Sicinski; brother-in-law, Francis (Nancy) Jones, sister-in-law, Kathleen Jones and nephew, Matthew Sicinski..
Ray’s family will always remember the exceptional care and kindness from Lightways hospice, especially Cece, Tara, Rachel and Erica.
Visitation for Ray will be Monday, June 26, 2023 from 5-8 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 27, 2023 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at St. Mary Nativity Cemetery where military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Army.
