Obituary of Steven G. Shay
Steven Shay
Age 65, of Morris, Illinois, passed from this life, peacefully at home, Sunday morning, January 7, 2024, after a several month valiant battle against brain cancer.
He was born in Germany on October 3, 1958, while his father was serving in the US Army. Upon returning to Illinois, the Shay's resided in Hinsdale for a short time before settling in Morris in the early 1960s.
Steve was a graduate of the class of 1977 from Morris Community High School.
A self-employed property manager and skilled home restoration specialist, Steve enjoyed his calling, always striving to return to original splendor, magnificent homes in the area, built as far back as the 1800's. His attention to detail for some, is considered over the top, although to Steve, standard operating procedure.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret (nee Peschke) Shay; sons and daughters, Rebecca Lane, Robert (Carolyn) Shay, Anna Shay, Daniel Shay, and Adam Shay; two granddaughters, Audrey and Natalie Shay; his father, Dennis Shay; sister, Sandy Loucks and several nieces and nephews.
Steve is preceded in death by his mother, Joan Shay, and sister, Holly Jackson.
An avid runner and outdoorsman, Steve also enjoyed kayaking, antiquing, and history.
As it was Steve's wish, cremation rites have been accorded and his final earthly remains will be interred in Evergreen Cemetery at a later date.
All friends and relatives are invited to gather to celebrate his life on Saturday, January 20, 2024, from 1 - 3 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 1201 W. Rt. 6 (at Deerpath Dr.) Morris. A prayer service will conclude the afternoon; beginning at 3 p.m. Pastor Joel Robertson will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Steve's name can be made to Morris Senior Meals on Wheels program, Lightways Hospice, or Grundy County Historical Society.
