Obituary of H. Michael Fisher
H. Michael Fisher, age 81, passed away suddenly on Monday, January 29, 2024 at Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. Michael was born on May 20, 1942 in Chattanooga, TN to the late Hubert and Ruth Fisher. Michael and his family moved to the Joliet area when he was in his teens, and he was a graduate of Joliet Central High School, Class of 1961. On August 20, 1966, Michael married Barbara Ingram, and the two most recently celebrated 57 years of marriage.
Michael was a professional mechanic and all-around repairman. His motto was “I can fix anything but a broken heart, and weld anything but the crack of dawn”. He owned and operated Some Assembly Required, where he specialized in barge pump repair. He was also a car enthusiast. He was a founding member of the Tri-Chevy Association, founded in 1972. He also enjoyed rides on his Harley. His favorite pastime though was time spent with his grandkids.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Fisher; his children, Michelle (Brent) Fraser and Michael (Kimberly) Fisher; his eight grandchildren, Madison (Kait) Fraser, Shelby Fraser, Payton Fraser, Joseph (Hannah) Sheppard, Kyle Sheppard, Declan (Brianna Schillaci) McElroy, Michael Fisher, and Kooper Fisher; his great-granddaughter, Kinsley Sheppard; his sister, Nancy (the late Richard) Emrich; brother-in-law Paul (Vedie) Albright; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Edna Albright; brother-in-law, Mark (Janice) Albright; and sister-in-law, Doris Runnels.
Visitation for H. Michael Fisher will be Friday, February 2, 2024 form 4-8 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black (at Essington) Rd., Joliet. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the Grace United Methodist Church, 1718 Avalon Ave, Joliet, where he will lie-in-state from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
