Michael D.Homberg
Michael D. Homberg passed away unexpectedly, on Thursday, February 15, 2024, in Joliet, IL. He was born on October 19, 1958, to Ronald L. and Norma J. (Bertrand) Homberg. Michael was born and raised in Kankakee and was a graduate of Kankakee Westview High school.
Michael proudly served as a Security Forces Specialist in the United States Air Force from 1978-1983. Through the military, Michael attained the rank of Sergeant and cross trained to become a member of the Air Force Office of Special investigation. Upon discharge, Michael continued his higher education, and started his career in law enforcement by becoming a Montgomery police officer from 1984 through 1989. In 1989 he became a Will County Sheriff Deputy and retired at the rank of Sergeant in 2012. He had a combined total of 34 years serving in law enforcement and served as President of the Will County Sheriff’s Deputy Union. In 1992 Michael helped establish the K-9 unit where at a later time in his career he became their first Sergeant. In retirement, Michael enjoyed numerous activities including exercising, traveling, sport shooting, and camping. One of Michael’s greatest enjoyments was spending time with his family, and watching his grandchildren grow.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Nicole M. (Davis) Homberg; his children, Michael (Morgan) Homberg, Jennifer Homberg, Heather Davis, and Tayler Davis; his grandchildren, Dillon, Jordan and Tyler; his mother, Norma J. Homberg; siblings, Gary (Sharon) Homberg, Rhonda (Chris Klebba) Homberg; his father-in-law, Timothy Davis, Sr.; and his brother-in-law, Tim (Kelly) Davis; and sister-in-law, Gayle Homberg. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
He is preceded in death by his father, Ronald L. Homberg; and his brother, Steven Homberg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial in his name can be given to Wounded Warriors Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) or Boy Scouts of America (www.scouting.org).
Visitation for Michael D. Homberg will be held at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) on Sunday, February 25th from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 26th. Intermittent will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood with full military honors being held under the auspices of the United States Air Force and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad.
