Obituary of Gayle Hufford
Hufford, Gayle Fletcher
Age 82, of Joliet, died Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Deerbrook Nursing Home. Born September 22, 1929 to Gayle N. and Edna Hufford. His parents and only brother preceded him in death.
A graduate of Joliet Township High School in 1947, he went on to graduate from the University of Chicago with a B.A in the Humanities and Physical Sciences in 1952; both a B.A and Masters degree from DePaul University in Music and English in 1956 and a B.A in English from Roosevelt University in 1967. He attended Northwestern University working on his doctorate in 1962, all the while pursuing a successful career as a concert pianist. He was a published composer and writer of books. He also spoke fluent Latin and French. He spent much of his adult life caring for his aging parents. He loved Al's Steak House, reading philosophy, drinking manhattan's, Bach, turkey dinners and his daily walk to the Joliet Public Library, as he was a voracious reader.
His last 10 years have been spent with his adoptive family, Bill, Bobby and Rob Adrian, Carol Hicks and Sally Johnson. He blessed the residents at Lakewood Nursing Home with monthly concerts with Bobby and Friends Ministry.
Gayle, who had been a self-professed humanist, received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior on November 14, 2011.
