Age 58, of Batavia, passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.  John was born in Joliet on March 26, 1965, the son of Virginia L. and the late Leo E. Murphy. John attended St. Mary Magdalene grade school and was a graduate of Providence Catholic High School with the class of 1983 where he played baseball all four years and was named MVP his junior year when the team took state.  He then continued his education, earning a bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Illinois, a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon.

John is survived by his three children, Ryan (Sydney) of Colorado, Kevin of Iowa and Megan Murphy of Tennessee; his mother, Virginia L. Murphy of Joliet; his brother, Robert (Janien) Murphy of Oak Forest; aunts, Pat (Joseph “Buddy”) McElroy, Kay Buckman, Molly Glog, Marlene Murphy, Donna Murphy, Barbara Stover and Bonnie Nordstrom. He is preceded in death by his father, Leo E. Murphy; aunts, Jean Gaffey and Norene (late Ken) Brandt; uncles, Patrick, David, Joseph, Bill and George Murphy; Ed Buckman, Ray Glog and Riley Stover.

John was employed in IT for over 30 years at Accenture.  He loved the outdoors, especially camping with his family years ago.  He also enjoyed coaching little league baseball in Batavia when his kids were growing up, especially observing young players loving the game and learning the fundamentals.

John will long be remembered as a wonderful neighbor and friend who enjoyed the many fishing trips in Canada with friends. His proudest achievement was being a father and family man.  He will always be his daughter and sons biggest fan.
