Obituary of Catherine A. Kuzma
Age 92, of Joliet, Illinois, passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Sunday evening, March 3, 2024. Catherine was born on her family farm in Troy Township, February 17, 1932 the daughter of Edward and Margaret (nee Cronin) Larkin. She attended St. Raymond Grade School and graduated with the class of 1950 from St. Francis Academy. After graduation, Catherine stayed on the farm to care for her mother until her death several years later. Later in life, she took on again, the role of caring for her Aunt Katherine, her Father and brother.
On September 24, 1955 Catherine married Robert F. Kuzma at the Cathedral of St. Raymond. She and Robert made their home in Joliet raising five children, providing them a strong Catholic faith and education in the Parish of St. Paul the Apostle.
In addition to Robert, her beloved husband of over 68 years, Catherine is also survived by her sons and daughters, Robert E. (Lilli) Kuzma, Jean Kuzma, Jane (Dan) Fahrner, William Kuzma and Margaret (Keith) Warning; grandchildren, Alexander Kuzma (fiancee Sylmarie Soto), Patrick (Nicolette) Fahrner, Brian (Maggie) Fahrner, Kevin Fahrner; J. Hunter (Katherine) Warning and Jack Warning (fiancée Isabel Utschig). Joan Adamic, her sister-in-law, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lucille Vertin, brother, Edward P. Larkin; brothers-in-law, Steven Vertin, Joseph Adamic and her nephew, Joseph Adamic.
In her sweet simple Irish way, she found goodness in everyone.
Her family will always remember the professionalism, kindness and compassion shown to Catherine by the incredible caregivers of Gentle Touch in Plainfield and Lightways Hospice of Joliet.
Visitation for Catherine will be Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 3-7 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet. Funeral services will begin Friday, March 8, 2024 with prayers at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10: 00 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 18 N. Woodlawn Avenue, Joliet.
Interment will be held privately at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Catherine’s name can be made to St. Paul the Apostle Parish or Lightways Hospice of Joliet.
