Obituary of Debra Lynn Richardson

Debra Lynn Richardson, age 60, of Joliet, passed away peacefully, Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Lightways Hospice, with her loving family by her side.

Born September 13, 1963 in Joliet, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Susie (Hansen) Gurnitz, and was a graduate of Joliet East High School. 

Debra worked for many years as a custodian for Plainfield District #202 Grand Prairie Elementary School, where she made many lasting friendships with students and staff.  She previously delivered newspapers for Night Owl News and Pitbull Distributors.

Debra was a loving and amazing sister, aunt, and friend.  She was hard-working, dedicated and determined, as well as devoted, caring, and understanding.  You loved her the moment you met her.  In addition to all her wonderful qualities, she will be remembered for her love of Winnie the Pooh.

Surviving are her beloved sisters, Theresa (James Rudd) Woodhall, Susie (John) Curry, and Tanya (Justin Lilly) Emmert, all of Joliet; and numerous nieces and nephews including Ryan Lindow, Amanda (Steven) Curry, and Karisa (Joey) Cox.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mary Lindow; and five brothers, Frankie Gurnitz, Charles Gurnitz, Dennis Gurnitz, Richard Gurnitz and Michael Gurnitz.

Visitation for Debra Richardson will be held Wednesday, March 13, 2024, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet.  Graveside services will be Thursday, March 14, at 10:00 a.m., at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Joliet, where interment will follow.  Family and friends will meet at the cemetery on Thursday.
