Obituary of Marian Gornik
Age 93, of Joliet, Illinois passed away Sunday morning, March 10, 2024, at Sunny Hill Nursing Home of Will County. Born December 11, 1930, in Joliet to the late Mary (Smolich) and John Strysik, Marian was a lifelong Crest Hill/Joliet resident.
Marian began working at the age of 12 and at the age of nineteen, Marian wed Raymond Gornik. Raising her family was Marian’s most gratifying labor of love, however as her family grew, she returned to the workforce as a realtor for 10 years followed by seven years in retail at JC Penney. She also thoroughly enjoyed volunteering both as a foster grandmother as well as at St. Joseph Medical Center.
Marian is the beloved mother of Glenn (Diane) Gornik, Greg (LuAnn) Gornik, Diane (Tom) Shiner, Mariane “Mimi” (Mike) Sabados, and daughter-in-law, Chris Gornik; devoted grandmother of 13 and proud great-grandmother of 7. Also surviving are her sisters, Lorraine (Chuck) Balstrode, Carol (the late Ray) Beno, Nancy (the late James) Borio, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her husband of 45 years, Ray; Marian is also preceded in death by her sons, Dennis and Donald Gornik.
The Gornik family will forever be grateful to the staff and caregivers on 6th Avenue at Sunny Hill for their wonderful care of Marian.
All friends and relatives are invited to gather at Holy Family Catholic Church, 600 N. Brookforest Avenue (Rt. 59) in Shorewood on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until Marian's Mass of Christian Burial is celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to Lightways Hospice, Autism Society, or National Multiple Sclerosis Society or Sunny Hill, 421 Doris Ave., Joliet, 60433, would be appreciated.
