I am so sorry for your loss. I knew John and Don as young children. They lived down the street on Warren Avenue in Oak Lawn. We use to play kick-the-can and other games. He was always fun and full of energy. I heard from my brother who had been in touch with Don and he told me about John's passing. We reminisced about the fun times we had and the mighty arm John had when pitching a ball. John was larger than life it seemed and gone too soon.

Hey Daddy-o,
I miss you like crazy and wish you were still here. I’m so grateful that you chose to be my Dad. You were the very best. I can’t imagine where I’d be without your unwavering love and support. I will honor you by playing every pair of deuces like they’re aces.
Love you so much,

Ed,
The pics are absolutely awesome. You captured the John so many know and love. I'd love to have both sets printed big for 4May. Of all John's 'great guys down the road,' you will always be one on the top of the heap. He loved you big. He had so many years of great times with you, your kids and grandkids, racing and fishing and just being together. He spent about 345 days a year planning the next trip with you. He is a lucky man to have had such a forever friend.
I Love you and Trese.

Jane and the whole Lagerstrom family:
My true condolences for your loss. Although I did not know him, he seems like a really great guy. I hope you all spend your days remembering the good times and how much better your life is having had him in it.

Aww Micster,
Thanks so much. I truly cannot express how much your message means to me. John got to hear some Mic stories and often commented that you two could likely cause all sorts of shenanigans together. I have a feeling that is absolutely true. There are a lot of people missing him, and keeping a stiff upper lip has escaped me so far. The 'kids' are just broken right now. We're going to be okay. John would insist on it. As I said, 'Just gotta get my poop in a group,'
Love ya, Derek,

What I wouldn’t give to hear your laugh, see your smile, or have one more big dad hug. I’m going to miss our hours long conversations about anything and everything. I cannot believe you’re no longer here. I miss you more than words can express.

Mud,
Daddy loved you so much. He wanted nothing but the best for you and your kids. He always said he was a lucky man, and even luckier dad. He loved telling his 'great guys down the road' about his kids and grandkids and spent his days hoping for the best for all of you. When you became a nurse, we could literally feel his pride. Sometimes we'd sit and go thru a photo album, pointing out this time or that, laughing til our sides ached. Remember he's watching over all of you.
I Love you,
~ Mom

John was my son-in-law. Over the years we developed a close relationship and shared some of each others secrets. I observed John being a friend to all those around him and a father to his offspring. He was particularly successful dealing with the pitfalls of youthful thinking and I saw how all the kids loved him for it. I told him what a great father he was more than once. I’m glad I had that chance.
How many times did we hear John say “I gotta guy!” to someone with a problem that had to be solved…. and how many times was John “The Guy” who solved it?
My late wife Joyce loved John just as my present wife Linda did after meeting him on a trip to Illinois in 2022.
We’ll miss him dearly and may he rest in peace.
Barry

Dad,
John loved you so very much. I cannot count the times he said he was lucky to have two dads. He'd relate a joke or a story, and say, 'that's my other dad.' Often in the midst of one of those 'I gotta guy' moments, he'd pause, scratch his chin and say, 'what would Barry do?' When I would attempt to help him be grounded, he'd tell me, 'Okay, Barry. I get it.' You meant so much to him, and your praise for him as a father cannot be measured. That gave him such pride.
I love you, Dad.

I was so sorry to hear about John’s passing. I remember him as the funny, witty member of our JROTC group. Always there to brighten up the mood! I have so many fond high school memories and I know her will be missed. Prayers for the family. I know he will be reunited with my brothers Mark Linowski and Peter Hermstra.

Hi Leslie,
Thanks so very much for your kind msg. John always had a grin when he related 'Rotty Nerd' stories. He had a blast in ROTC. Between that group and him relating stories of typing class that his mom MADE him take, I'm not sure which made him smile more. He complained that he was the 'only boy in typing class' and relished the days when he had ROTC to help round out the misery of single finger typing with a bunch of girls. Thank you again. Your kindness is most appreciated.
*hugs*

Lorri,
It's so good to see your msg. I heard many Lorri stories over the years, from John AND his family. All of them really thought the world of you! He was so tickled to connect with you on social networks. He'd mention you often, with a new (or repeated) story that always included a smile from ear to ear. He really enjoyed that and got a kick out of being able to share stories and pics with, and about you. If you're able, please join us for his party. That would be wonderful!
*hugs*

I meet John when he lived across the breeze way from my apartment in Mount Prospect. I won't get into details. But the great times and memories we spent together drinking and chewing the fat.
When I meet John little did I know that we attended the same school in Wyoming. John attended Wyoming tech after I had graduated.
Where we lived a group from the same building or close by would go to breakfast every Sunday morning. Thank god it was only a few blocks away. We ate some and drank even more.
It took me months to get John to jump ship and move to UPS where I hired him at Franklin Park.
I think he made a good move
We both move on but kept in touch. But over time drifted apart
John you will be missed by many
John RIP

Hey Mike.
It's really good to hear from you. I heard lots of apt. stories and plenty of UPS tales with Mikey G in the mix. He'd often wonder aloud about you, and really enjoyed when you two would connect, if even just to chew the fat. There were many smiles over the stories from your front, and often a two-word quote from you, over the years. That same quote has been said a few times this week. (sideways smile) Please share his info. Hope we see you soon.

I’m having a hard time putting into words what a shock this is to Gwen and me. We were on our way back to Alabama when Jake called. John was such a good and loyal friend, who would drop everything if you needed help. We will miss his humor and laughter. We send our prayers and condolences to Janie and the kids. He will be greatly missed.

Hi John and Gwen,
John always loved BOTH of you, telling stories of woe, and those that shouldn't be repeated. He loved John's delivery tales and being under foot for some of the chaos Gwen dealt with in building. He often said he hoped you'd have more grandkids soon, so he'd see you on the doorstep. You've always been one of his 'great guys down the road,' altho he'd point a little further when you moved. Hope you'll share: www.fredcdames.com. And, I hope we see you soon. *hugs*
