Roy Donald “Don” Winchester
Roy Donald Winchester, age 90, passed away peacefully at The Inn at Willow Falls, on Monday, April 15, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Don was born in Paris, TN on November 24, 1933, the son of the late Thomas and Mildred (Owen) Winchester.
Don retired from Fisher Body after 37 years of dedicated service. He was very involved with the Curtis Avenue Baptist Church in Joliet, and also the Friendship Baptist Church in Plainfield. Don delivered for Meals on Wheels in Joliet for 27 years, and found great joy in getting to know those he delivered to. He loved spending time with his family especially his kids, grandchildren, great grandchildren and siblings.
Don is survived by his sons; Philip (Becky) Winchester, David (Anita) Winchester, Mark Winchester, and Joel ( Julie) Winchester; his daughter , Renita (Dave) Loock; grandchildren, Danielle (Corey) Alsip, Timothy (Irene) Winchester, Allison Winchester (Laura Ferdinandt), Jonathan ( Carmen) Winchester, Ian Winchester, Sarah (Jon) Beck, Troy (Alonna) Winchester, Jennifer Hartley, Michael (Pattie) Winchester, Stephanie (Mark) Gregory, Tony (Jensyn) Winchester, Adam Winchester, Justin (Brook) Loock, and Rachel (Jake) DeLair; 30 great grandchildren; brothers, Tom (Linda) Winchester, and Neil (Pat) Winchester; sisters, Glenda Owen, and Evonne Shopher; brother-in-law, Thomas (Ella Mae) Taylor; sister-in-law Dolores Wilkes; and several nieces and nephews.
Don is preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Winchester in 1996; his second wife, Joanne Winchester in 2015; and his granddaughter, Shandra Winchester in 1999.
Funeral Services for Roy Donald “Don” Winchester will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL. Services will be officiated by Dr. Odis Weaver. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 19, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
