Obituary of William L. Plitt
William Louis Plitt, age 95, late of Frankfort, and formerly of Crest Hill, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Cedarhurst of Frankfort.
Born March 6, 1929 in Joliet, he was the son of Francis and Jeanette (Milligan) Plitt. He was a graduate of Joliet Catholic High School, and was a veteran of the United States Army and the Army Reserve, serving from 1951 to 1956.
Bill enjoyed a long and rewarding career as a lineman and later crew chief foreman for Commonwealth Edison, retiring after many years of service.
An active member of numerous organizations and his community, he enjoyed his memberships with the Croatian Club, the Loyal Order of Moose, and Stone City VFW Post #2199. He was also an active and faithful supporter of his parish, the Church of St. Anthony.
Always helpful to all in need, he will be remembered for his generosity, and for being a devoted uncle to his 31 nieces and nephews. He was also an avid University of Notre Dame and Chicago Cubs fan.
Surviving are his long time partner and best friend for the past 25 years, Caryl Vose-Thomas and her family; his sister, Janice Mackay; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris (Vercellotti) Plitt (1998); his sons, Gerald Anthony Plitt and Steven Gregory Plitt; and three sisters, Catherine Blackburn, Marilyn Relyea and Mary Frances Bambic.
Visitation for William Plitt will be held Sunday, June 2, 2024 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet, IL Funeral services will be held Monday, June 3, 2024 at 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home, with Fr. Joseph Noonan, officiating. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Romeoville, IL.
