Barbara J. Johns

Age 84, of Romeoville, Illinois, passed peacefully on Friday evening, July 12, 2024 at Lightways Hospice Home of Joliet.

Barb was born January 8, 1940 to the late Helen (nee Martin) and Lee Grewenig in Joliet where she was raised and educated.

Surviving are her son, Christopher Johns; granddaughters, Alisha (Chad) Pilcher and Julianne Johns as well as several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Johns; son, James Johns; her parents; two sisters, Josephine (late Eugene) Ziller and Nancy (late Kenneth) Hibler; one brother, Robert Grewenig.

Barbara retired from the Diocese of Joliet after many years of service as an associate administrator of the local diocesan cemeteries.  Barb’s hobbies included gardening and maintaining a beautiful yard.

Visitation for Barb will be Thursday, July 18, 2024 from 4-8 pm at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Rd (at Essington Rd) Joliet.  Funeral services will begin Friday, July 19, 2024, 12 Noon at the funeral home with Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Romeoville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Barb’s name can be made to your favorite charity.
