Obituary of Robert Marenche

Robert (Bob) Marenche, 74, of Redondo Beach, California, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at home. He was born May 26, 1950, in Joliet, Illinois.

Bob was a graduate of Joliet Catholic High School and Southern Illinois University - Carbondale. He served in the Air Force as a Radio Relay Technician from 1970-1974, spending two years stationed in Europe. After retiring from the Air Force, he studied electrical engineering at Waubonsee Community College and SIU. He went on to work as an engineer for Boeing, Sattel Technologies, and International Rectifier.

Bob moved from Illinois to California in 1982. He spent his years in California enjoying warm weather, listening to live music, biking, and meeting up with his large network of friends. Bob also enjoyed traveling. In 2023, he made a trip to Germany to visit the Air Force base he was stationed at in the early 1970s.

Bob’s girlfriend and friends from MeetUp groups, biking group, and social circles loved him and miss his relaxed view of, and zest for, living a full life.

He is survived by his loving girlfriend, Ellen Rae Schectman, brother Jim (Lisa) Marenche; and beloved nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Stephanie (Biegun) Marenche; and sister, Nancy (Marenche) Hopp.

In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that memorial contributions be made in Robert’s name to either of the following organizations that he held close to his heart: Habitat for Humanity, Southern Illinois University Electrical & Computer Engineering Development Fund.
