Marjorie F. Forbes
1926-2024
Marjorie F. Forbes, age 98, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Renwick Nursing Home, Joliet, Illinois.
She was born to Frank and Mabel Silver in Livingston County (Hale), Missouri on July 8, 1926. After being raised on a farm, she moved to Richmond, CA. and worked at the Standard Oil Refinery. While there, she met James T. Forbes who was in the U.S. Navy at the time and after a brief courtship, they were married in Kansas City, Kansas on Jan. 4, 1946. James was a career navy man and they lived in several different places, South Carolina, Guam, Arkansas and Virginia to name a few. After his retirement from the Navy in 1960, they settled in Joliet, IL.
Fontaine, as she preferred to be called, worked for the Troy School District for several years. After the passing of James in 1978, she was employed by Wiebolts Dept Store. After some time, she moved to Blue Springs, Missouri and worked at the Jones Dept Store until her retirement.
Fontaine was an avid genealogist and traced several family lines back many generations. She was also the keeper of family photos and stories. She loved to travel when possible and enjoyed listening to the Big Band sounds of the 1940's. But most of all she loved her family, and her family loved her.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brother-in-law and sister, Harry and Frances Avery Jr.
She is survived by her sons, Steven (Pamela) Forbes and Gary Forbes; three grandchildren, Paul (Jennifer) Forbes, Craig (Brooke) Forbes, and Kimberly (Bradley) Kouyoumjian; six great-grandchildren, and a step-granddaughter, Mindee (Daryl) Mosher with four step-great-grandchildren. There are also, many nieces and nephews.
Per her request, a private family service will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7 at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, followed by interment at Woodlawn Memorial Park, both in Joliet, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in her name to Lightways Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, would be appreciated.
