Obituary of Catherine Mary Miner
Catherine Mary (McMillin) Miner, age 90, passed away peacefully September 11, 2024. Kay was born on March 8, 1934, in Joliet, IL and was a lifelong area resident, primarily Troy Township. She attended grade school in a one room schoolhouse, before continuing her education at Joliet Township High School.
On February 5th, 1955 she married Ray Miner, enjoying 37 years of marriage before his passing.
Kay is survived by her children; Brenda (Edward) Rittof, Debra (Michael) Lavazza, Raymond (Kathy Nelson) Miner and Darlene (Tim) Fabek; grandchildren; Christine (Brad) Lackey, Jennifer (Matt) Baker, Ann (Adam) Las, Katherine (Drew) Knol, Kathleen (Daniel) Husselein, Michael Lavazza Jr., Patrick (Lauren) Miner; Edward Rittof, Donald Rittof, Nick Fabek, Stefanie (Jason) Jurasitis, Jennifer (Brian) Kursell; great-grandchildren; Alexis Lackey; Tyler, Nora, Addison and Jake Baker, Ella Luban, Alaina and Joe Lavazza, Griffin and Madison Husselein, Forrest and Wade Las, Owen Miner; Jonathon Lackey, Caden Kursell, Lucy and Tommy Knol, Henry and Ava Jurasitis. Kay is also survived by her sister-in-law Lois McMillin of Joliet, and several generations of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Raymond F. Miner, Sr., Kay is also preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Catherine (Dempsey) McMillin, her in-laws Fred and Gladys (Rudd) Miner; brothers, James (Adeline) McMillin, Charles (Ruth) McMillin, Clyde (Beverly) McMillin, Winfield (Margaret) McMillin, Floyd (Marge) McMillin, and Leroy McMillin; sisters, Peggy (Ray) Conway, Delores (Roy) Fronek, Sara (Leonard) Link and Mary Lou Antich as well as her brothers-in-law, Fred Miner and David (Joyce) Miner; sisters-in law, Marlin (Richard) Krause and Beverly (William) Krizmanic.
Kay retired from EcoLab after many years of dedicated service. Formerly employed by Caterpiller, McJunkin and Joliet Junior College. She was proud to have always worked within ten miles of her home.
Kay will be remembered fondly for being the greatest Mom, grandmother and role model. She was a generous and kind person who navigated both the good and bad parts of life with ease. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed traveling around the world as well as the occasional Euchre game. Her favorite times were spent enjoying the holidays and get togethers with her family. Everyone will miss her quick-witted humor.
Visitation for Kay Miner will be Sunday, September 15, 2024 from 3 – 6 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet. Funeral services will take place Monday, September 16, 2024 at the funeral home with visitation resuming at 10 a.m. followed by a service of remembrance at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
