Obituary of Charles E. Stein, Sr.
Age 94, a longtime Joliet, Illinois resident passed away on Friday evening, September 20, 2024 at the Birches in Clarendon Hills. Chuck was born July 11, 1930 in Joliet to the late Mae (Sullivan) and Bertram Stein.
He was a United States Army Veteran who served during the Korean War. He retired from U.S. Steel after many years of dedicated service as an electrician and carpenter.
He is the beloved father of Charles E. (Carol) Stein, Jr., Ginger L. (John J.) Harris, Thomas M. (Michelle) Stein Sr., and Vikki A. (Michael J.) Delaney; proud grandfather of 11 and cherished great-grandpa of 12 with another due in January of 2025. Charlie is also survived by his brother, Robert (Phyllis) Stein and several generations of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ninian (nee Johnson) Stein; his parents; brother, Eugene (late Bernadine) Stein and sister, Doris Mae Ferguson.
Chuck’s hobbies included constructing model airplanes and ships, antiquing and traveling throughout the USA. He possessed a very methodical mind and could fix anything.
As it was Charles’ wish, services were held privately with interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
