Obituary of Dorothy Jean Henniger

Dorothy Jean Henniger, age 86, of Joliet, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at home.

Born August 21, 1938 in Springfield, IL, she was the daughter of the late Leo Lester and Oral Alberta (Bush) Pope. She moved to Joliet at an early age, and was a graduate of St. Francis Academy.  Dorothy worked for Travelers Insurance for many years, retiring as a Medical Malpractice Underwriter.

Dorothy had a beautiful voice and loved to sing.  She shared her gift of music for many years as a member of the Community Renewal Chorus, in which she later involved her children.  She was also an avid reader, and loved being actively involved with all of her grandchildren.

Surviving are her loving children, Elaine (William) Wordelmann of Carol Stream, William (Corinne) Henniger of Dunlap, TN, and Thomas Henniger of Northlake; her grandchildren, Eric (Tara) Henniger, Alicia (Matthew) Mrowca, Noel Henniger, Steven Henniger and Ryan Henniger; three great-grandchildren, Mia, Lexi and Tyler; her sisters, Lola (the late Samuel) Dileto, Rose (Howard) Wysong, Joyce (the late Tony) Tafoya, and Bobbi (John Joseph) Honiotes; a brother-in-law, Edward Partilla; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Henniger; her parents, Lester and Alberta; and two sisters, Wanda Partilla and Mary (Dale) Willis.

Visitation for Dorothy will be held Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 10:00 a.m., until the time of funeral services at 11:30 a.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet.  Interment in Woodlawn Memorial Park will be private.
