Obituary of Kent Roy Burgess
Age 92, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Alden Estates of Shorewood. Kent was born in Chicago, IL, on April 28, 1932, the son of the late Roy and Genevieve (nee Heinz) Burgess.
Kent played semi-pro baseball for traveling teams as a teenager, with his first team being the St. Louis Browns. He was recruited by many teams, and finally drafted by the Washington Senators (Minnesota Twins). Kent was known as a “fire-ball” pitcher, fast and accurate. He later joined the PGA and became a professional golfer, continuing his passion well into his 90’s playing at Cog Hill Golf Course.
Kent is survived by his son, Bruce (the late Kim) Burgess; grandsons, Brendan Burgess, Caden Burgess, and Nathan Castans; brother, Barry (Val) Burgess; and nephews, Aaron Burgess, and Jordan Burgess.
He was preceded in death his loving wife, Barbara; daughter, Laura Castans; and nephew, Sean Burgess.
As it was his request, cremation rites have been accorded, and services will be private.
