Alice M. Karpen, age 96, late of Joliet, IL, passed away peacefully at her home on October 21, 2024, with her devoted family by her side. Alice was born on January 5, 1928, the daughter of the late George and Martha (nee Vladic) Pounovich. She was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church for over fifty years.
"Mer", as Alice was affectionately called by her grandkids, was a loving and attentive mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Living in her own home, with the help of her daughters and sons-in-law, she looked forward to daily visits and calls from her family.
Alice is survived by her three, loving daughters, Karen (Bob) Ranzini, Donna (Doug) Heckler, and Janice (Rick) Rodawold; her beloved grandchildren, Bryan, Jason, and Matthew (Allie) Heckler, Stephanie (Jim) Thuot, Michael (Jill) Ranzini, Ryan Rodawold, and Allison (Cody) Grosse; and her great-grandchildren, Landon and Emma Heckler, Meghan and Katie Thuot, Emerson and Vivienne Ranzini, and Alaina Ann Grosse (born October 8). Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, William Karpen (1988); her son, Bill (1976); her parents; and her thirteen siblings, Ann (John) Pesavento, George (Joyce), Nick (Jeane), Mike, John (Ann), Martha, Mary (Alfonso) Roberts, Jennie (Bill) Zager, Rose, Helen, Daniel, Louis (Kay), and Peter (Alice was the youngest of 14).
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the hospice team from Lightways Hospice who were kind, caring, and helpful. They would also like to give a special thank you to Margie Stanfel, her hospice nurse, for her kindness and support during this difficult time.
Visitation for Alice M. Karpen will be held on Monday, October 28, 2024, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Holy Family Catholic Church, 600 Brook Forest Ave, Shorewood, IL, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Romeoville
