Obituary of Irene R. Siefert
Irene R. Siefert, (nee Grzetich), age 92, of Joliet, passed away peacefully, Friday, November 1, 2024, at Lightways Hospice, with her loving family by her side.
Born December 2, 1931, in Joliet, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine (Marijasevich) Grzetich, and was a graduate of St. John the Baptist Grade School and Providence High School.
She married the love of her life, Raymond F. Siefert, and they enjoyed 57 years of marriage until his passing July 5, 2020. Her parents; her sister, Dorothy (Richard) Pazely; and her sister-in-law, Phyllis (Robert) Duncan also preceded her in death.
A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was an active volunteer during her children’s grade school years, and also participated in all of her grandchildren’s school and sports activities. Irene was a very social person and enjoyed get-togethers with family and friends and maintained close friendships with many of her childhood friends. She also enjoyed the last few years living at Willow Falls in Crest Hill. A devout Catholic, she was devoted to the Blessed Virgin and prayed the rosary daily. She also loved celebrating Christmas and following the White Sox. She will be remembered for her beautifully maintained home and her immaculate housekeeping.
Surviving are her two children, Michelle (Gary) Gudac of Joliet, and John (Jen) Siefert of Grass Lake, MI; five grandchildren, Matthew (Shelby) Gudac, Andrew (Jill Hickey) Gudac, and Jordan, Jarod and Jade Siefert; two great-granchildren, Graham and Autumn Gudac; one niece, Sue (Bill) Chalmers Helms; and one nephew, Doug (Renée) Duncan.
Visitation for Irene Siefert will be held Friday, November 8, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., from the funeral home to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus for Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Mary Nativity Cemetery, Crest Hill.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Willow Falls, and all the wonderful nurses and the entire staff of Lightways Hospice for the exceptional care they provided Irene at Willow Falls and the Hospice Home.
