Obituary of Myrthelitha Barrientos Garcia
Myrthelitha Barrientos Garcia, age 80, late of Shorewood, and a resident of Orange, New Jersey, passed away peacefully, Thursday, November 14, 2024, at home, with her loving family by her side.
Born August 26, 1944 in the Philippines, she was the daughter of the late Pedro and Josephina (Saavedra) Barrientos. She was educated in the Philippines, and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts from the University of Santo Tomas. She came to the United States in 1990.
Myrthelitha enjoyed a rewarding career educating children in art in both the Philippines and the United States for over 20 years. She later received additional training and certification to become an Activity Director serving residents in a nursing facility.
A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, she will be remembered for her culinary skills and her excellent cooking. She also loved to dance and sing, and was a talented choreographer.
Surviving are her beloved children, Dee Dee Garcia, Brodrick (Lourdes) Garcia and Leonard Garcia; two adoring grandchildren, Katriel and Yoninah Garcia; three dear siblings, Nona (the late Michael) Kahn, Lynne (Reynaldo) Meneses; and Willbrord (Lydia) Barrientos; and numerous fond nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Kay Solis; and one brother, Cholo Barrientos.
Cremation rites have been accorded and services will be held in the Philippines at a later date. Fred C. Dames Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
