I will miss Daryl's humor, his wit, his dry sense of humor, AND his generosity!
I remember his "upperclassmen" presence in Band, at JTHS.
I know he strove for excellence and excitement in his music.
I think Heaven is getting another premium musician from Joliet Central Band.
When it is my time, I will be delighted to, once again, play music with Daryl and the other Bandmates that are already there...
Farwell, Daryl...See you in Heaven's Bandroom!
I'll be standing on the top step...wave me up when I get there...

I met Daryl in college, at Marquette. I was in the Journalism school and he was in the adjacent Communications program. I don’t know how we met, perhaps we were living in the same dorm. Anyway, we started talking with each other, either in his room or mine, long, endless, important conversations. We would argue and debate. Daryl loved rhetoric and argumentation. He loved listening to an argument, and coming back, and developing the thought; and so, I imagine, did I/ We took a class together, in Chaucer. The number of hours that we debated/discussed numbered in the hundreds, perhaps thousands.
Around the time of my Junior year, we moved out of the dorms and into an apartment together, not only off campus but a ways away from campus, on the Northeast side of Milwaukee, near where his girlfriend. Bonnie Topczewski, lived. I think we were roomates for about 2 years. We were often quite poor, and invented new ways of cooking omlets. I would also go over often and visit Bonnie’s family house. Her father was most accommodating and their family gregarious. I would sometimes work on my car in their garage. I grew up in Pewaukee, a small town between Madison and Milwaukee.
After college, we lost touch. I moved to New York and went into Book Publishing. Later, I learned that Daryl got married and struggled to establish himself in the cabinet industry separate from his Father’s business. Daryl was an excellent craftsman, as well as displaying excellent craftsmanship in all matters physical and intellectual. Much later, after I’d moved to Japan and started my own family, we reconnected when I was on a trip Stateside. I asked him to serve as the Godfather for my children and he entertained us and them at his house. I always thought I would reconnect with him again, as he was often in my thoughts, and since hearing about his passing I have been thinking about him for several days almost nonstop. We had a profound, close, intellectual friendship. He was a truly unique, magnanimous, wise individual.
