Obituary of Gwendolyn C. Sulaica

Gwendolyn C. Sulaica, age 74, a longtime resident of Shorewood, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Lightways Hospice, surrounded by the love of her family.  She was born in Joliet, IL, on February 1, 1950, the daughter of the late Earl and Gwendolyn (nee Kinsley) Richardson. Wendy was in the first graduating class of Joliet West High School and attended Joliet Junior College.  She retired from Bays Investment Corporation in Joliet after a long and dedicated career. Wendy was a proud supporter of the Veterans and was deeply involved with the Disabled American Veterans group.

Wendy enjoyed spending time with her family, whether it was at the theatre watching her nephew or making memories in Hilton Head, SC during family vacations.  She was an amazing cook and loved making homemade meals for everyone she loved.

Wendy is survived by her siblings, Larry (Jill) Richardson and Peggy (James) Ongenae; nieces and nephews, Andrew (Ali) Richardson, Justin (Rebecca) Ongenae, and Jessica (Chris) Simmons; and her stepchildren, Dawn (Tim) Paquin, Jessica (Val Fuller) Bays and Simon (Angie) Sulaica III.  Four great-nephews, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and cousins also survive.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 22 years, Simon Sulaica, Jr.; her son, Dax Longo; and her parents.

Visitation for Gwendolyn C. Sulaica will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service beginning at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her husband.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to Disabled American Veterans or Parkinson’s Foundation would be appreciated.
