James M. Kane, D.D.S.

Age 78. Peacefully at home with his family by his side on Sunday, November 30, 2008. Born in Joliet and a lifelong resident. Dr. Kane was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. A graduate of Joliet Catholic High School Class of 1948, and Loyola University Dental School Class of 1955. He served two years in Japan, as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force from 1955-1957. He opened his dental practice in Joliet in 1958, retiring in 1996.
Devoted father of six children: Dr. James (Michelle) Kane of Grand Rapids, MI, Patrick Kane of Phoenix, AZ, Ann Piercy of Naperville, Jennifer (Vic) Howard of Joliet, Julie (Dan) Okruhlica of Louisville, KY and Dr. John "Mitch" (Jody) Kane of Hayward, WI; loving grandfather of 15: Kelly, Matt, Tim, Owen, Molly and Maggie Kane; Christopher, Brendan, Elizabeth and Annalise Kane; Collin, Megan and Erin Piercy; and Connor and Grace Okruhlica; three brothers, Jack (Ann) Kane, Dr. Thomas (Merrily) Kane, and Dr. Robert Kane all of Joliet; one sister, MaryCele (Jim) Doyle of Chicago; two sisters-in-law, Kathryn (Henry) Offerman and Jeanne (William) Rourke; numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends, Dr. George and Marge Osterberger also survive.
Preceded in death by his wife, Rita (nee Birkey) (1996); his parents, John Joseph and Cecilia Kane; one granddaughter, Kathleen Piercy; and three brothers, William, Richard and Gerald.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Robert S. Schubert, Joliet Area Community Hospice, nurse Margie Stafel and the staff at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center.
Funeral Services for James M. Kane will be Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to St. Patrick Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to St. Patrick Grade School or St. Jude Children's Hospital would be appreciated. Visitation Wednesday 2-8 p.m. at:
