Richard Kayel Lopez
Age 21, of Joliet, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at home following a sudden seizure.
Born October 17, 1993 in Joliet and attended Troy Heritage Trails, Troy Middle School, and graduated from Joliet West High School in 2012 where he was a member of the football and swim teams. He later attended Joliet Junior College.
Richard was a loving and devoted son and a protective big brother. He loved music, driving cars, watching superhero movies, playing guitar, collecting DC Marvel Comics, playing video games, fishing with his grandpa, eating his grandma's nutbread and spending time with his dog, Buddy. He will be remembered for his ability to fight through his limitations, being a jokester who loved to laugh and going out of his way to lift someone's spirits when they were down.
Surviving are his loving parents, Jill Hernandez and Jesse Martinez of Joliet, and Richard and Emily Lopez of Maywood; his brother, Kodi Lopez; stepbrother, Jacob Vertiz; stepsister, Jocelyn Vertiz; grandparents, Joyce Hernandez, Ysidro Hernandez, Margarita Contreras and Saturnino Lopez; a great-grandmother, Sue Guzman; aunts and uncles, William Rivera, Ivan Rivera, David Lopez, Nilda Santiago, Niriam Rivera, Jolanda Rivera, Ysidro "Cowboy" Hernandez, Mary Hernandez, Jodi Hernandez and Sydney Sayre; and many cousins including a special cousin, Julian Flores.
Funeral Services for Richard Kayel Lopez will be Monday, November 24, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Interment will be private.
