Dear Ann,
We got to learn about each other only back in 2003, and thus I never had the chance to meet Bud. Much love to you, your children and grandchildren.
Lars (Bud's Norwegian cousin)

In 2003, Carolyn and I travelled to Tananger, Norway for a family reunion. There were about 100 at the 3-day reunion. The reunion's purpose was to bring together a family that had at its core a tragic drowning of Ingebret Olsen, Lighthouse Captain, and his son, Torvald on January 24, 1894 in the North Sea. The other young boy pulled out of the North Sea was Ansgard Olsen, grandfather to Art "Bud" Vaksdal. My grandfather, Lauritz Peter Olsen was Ansgard's younger brother. Ansgard was rescued by his older sisters, Ester and Bertina. The organizer of the reunion, Lars Soeftesdad, alerted us to the fact that we had a cousin in the Chicago area. Upon returning to the USA, we made contact with Bud and Ann and some of their family at our family reunion in September in Sawyer, Michigan. I'm sad that it was only 12 years that Bud and I knew one another. At one of his recent medical treatments at Life Source in Rosemont, IL, Bud declared that it was God who brought us together. I KNOW that Bud's statement was true. The Bud I knew was a genuine man, warm, kind, and friendly. Carolyn and I pray that we will continue to keep in touch with Ann, her kids, and grandchildren. "For God so loved the world that he gave His only Son that whoever believes on Him shall never perish, but have everylasting life." John 3:16
