Lavern F. Stemke
"Vern"
Age 97, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. Born June 27, 1920, on a farm near Danforth, IL, he was the son of the late John and Fannie (nee Wallace) Stemke. He was employed by Armour and Company in Chicago, and later joined Commonwealth Edison (formerly Public Service Company of Northern Illinois) from where he retired after 41 years of service. Vern was a four year U.S. Army Veteran, serving in the European Theater of Operations during World War II, and received the Bronze Star Medal for activity during the Battle of the Bulge.
He was preceded by his parents; brothers, Fred (late Gladys) Stemke and Lyle (Charlene) Stemke; sisters, Donna (late Don) Rolph, Dorothy (late Roland) Savoie and Dolores Stemke.
Surviving are his wife, Charlotte; and sister, Lorraine (late James) Marr; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Lavern F. Stemke will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at 10:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, 604 N. Raynor Ave., Joliet, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Enshrinement will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
