Obituary of Virgil Horn

Age 73, of Joliet, IL passed away at home Wednesday, July 22, 2020 after a courageous battle against cancer.  He was born April 9, 1947 to the late Pollyanna (Browning) and John Horn in Kermit, West Virginia where he was raised and educated.  He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1969.

Beloved husband of 49 years to Patricia (Mehringer) Horn; loving father of Tammy (John) Moreno, Michelle (Keith) Vanosky and Virgil (Nicole) Horn, Jr.; devoted grandfather of Jacqueline (Xavier) Bailey, Gina, Leah; Keith (Ashley) Vanosky, Shanon (Brandon) Ivins; Jeremy and Khloe; proud great-grandpa of Jessie, Logan, Kolton, Dominic and Mason; Kyla, Arya, Cody, Lincoln and Lilian; fond brother of Elizabeth Dobbins, Willie Horn, John Horn and brother-in-law, Raymond Mehringer.  Many nieces and nephews also survive.

He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings.

A retired Header Forman, Virgil, in his free time, enjoyed following Chicago sports teams and was elated to see the Cubs win the World Series back in 2016. His true passion was being a family man and nothing made his smile wider than when he was surrounded by his grandkids.

A Memorial Visitation will be held at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet on Saturday, July 25, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. until a service of remembrance begins at 5:00 p.m.  Facemasks and distancing will be observed.  As it was Virgil’s wish cremation rites have been accorded.
