Obituary of Kathryn L. Miller
Age 87, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Alden Courts of Shorewood, IL. She was born December 17, 1933 in Joliet, IL to the late Frances (nee Dorich) and Francis Gecan. Kay was raised in Crest Hill, IL and graduated from Lockport Township High School with the class of 1951.
Kay attended college in Bloomington, IL at Illinois State University where she met the love of her life, Norman D. Miller. They were married August 31, 1957 and after Norm graduated from ISU the following year, they moved to Minooka where they raised their family and were proud to call home.
Mrs. Miller is the loving mother of Cheryl (Phillip) Tyrell, Bruce Miller, Sarah (Eric) Davisson, Kurt (Valerie) Miller; cherished grandmother of Alex (Ashley) Tyrell, Cole (Eva) Tyrell, Neal Tyrell, Ryan Davisson, Leah Davisson, George Miller, Olivia Miller, and Karl Miller; proud great-grandmother of Miller Katharine Tyrell and Frankie Mae Tyrell; fond sister of James (Marry Ann) Gecan and dear aunt of several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her beloved husband, Norman, she is also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Dorothy (late Dick) Remus, Mary (late Howard) Palya and one brother, Frank (late Jackie) Gecan.
Kathryn enjoyed a long career in banking at CIBC Bank (formerly Tri-County Bank) in Minooka. A highly skilled seamstress, Kay took pride in everything from mending to outfitting entire bridal parties. She will be remembered fondly as possessing a heart of gold and an extremely warm persona and always being there to encourage, reassure and support. She loved hosting parties throughout the year, bringing people together to laugh and reminisce. The month of December was especially festive at the Miller home.
She enjoyed most dearly the 25 years she and Norm spent at spring training following the Cardinals and appreciating the great friends they made along the way. As regulars at Cookies in Minooka, they held many fond memories of friends and family celebrations.
The Miller family would like to extend their gratitude to the many that kept Mom in their prayers and offered kind words throughout these past months. She will be sorely missed, but we are certain she is in a better place and her struggles of late are behind her.
Due to current circumstances services for Kay are private. Interment will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Minooka. Memorials in her name can be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, Minooka, IL.
