Obituary of Burdette Paul Reider
Burdette P. Reider, passed away peacefully at the age of 77, on Sunday, December 19, 2021, at Light Ways Hospice, surrounded by the love of his family. Burdette was born on July 20, 1944, in Clarksburg, WV, the son of William G. and Mary S. (nee Grant) Reider. Born and raised in Clarksburg, he relocated to Joliet, Illinois after high school in 1962. Burdette was a proud veteran of the United States Army, earning a National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He built his permanent residence in Shorewood in 1973, where he and the love of his life, Claudia, raised their family.
Burdette loved everything about golf, from the challenge of the sport to the relationships he fostered on the course. He will be remembered for always being there for anyone who needed him. He paid attention to the little things in life. Burdette was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was a good neighbor and friend to all he knew.
Burdette started his career at Caterpillar and LE Myers. He then spent the rest of his life as an avid entrepreneur, where he ran several businesses including a beauty shop, a restaurant (Grumpy's Beef & Dogs), an asphalt company, and a steel fabrication and welding business.
Burdette is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Claudia (nee Caretto) Reider; his son Paul (Mary Ann) Reider; daughter Amy (Norman) Murrin; his mother, Mary S. Reider; three brothers Ed (Joan) Reider, Bill (Judy) Reider, and Steve (Wilma) Reider; grandchildren, Aidan Murrin, Evan Murrin, Claire Murrin, Andrew Reider, and Ella Reider; brother-in-law, Michael (Jo Ann) Caretto; and his faithful canine companion, “Cody”. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
He is preceded by his father, William G. Reider; and his in-laws, John and Loretta E. Caretto.
Funeral Services for Burdette P. Reider will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL. Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood with full military honors held under the auspices of the United States Army and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
