I am very sorry to hear of Fred’s passing. We were classmates at Charleston High School, and Fred was a good friend to me, a very young and shy student. God bless him for his service to our country and may he rest in peace. My condolences to the family.

Fred was a childhood friend of mine, from elementary school all the way through high school. We grew up in the same neighborhood, played football and baseball together. We "camped out" on weekends, setting up a tent in a vacant lot many times during our adolescent years. It seemed like his dog, Flipper, was always with him.
In the winter time, with snow on the ground, the City of Charleston WV would close the street that he lived on, so the kids could sleigh ride down the slope of the street. These are treasured memories. I'm sure more will come flooding back as I keep his family in my thoughts and prayers.
I'm sorry we lost contact during our later years. We sure had some great memories from our early years. Rest In Peace, my Friend!

Remembering Fred…
I was one of the many Plainfield Baseball Umpires who had the pleasure to work with Fred over the years in making sure the young baseball players were able to have some FUN playing the game. Fred was so influential in helping the new and younger umpires learn-the-job and develop the confidence needed to be a good official. From his coaching thru his years of officiating the game Fred's demeanor accompanied with his professional approach and knowledge for the game along with his sense of humor with the players and coaches was second-to-none and continues to be missed around the fields in Plainfield.
Our sincere condolences go out to his family and all who were fortunate to know and work with Fred, I’m confident his memory will be everlasting around the fields because that’s what happens with baseball guys.

Joe Balayti posted a condolence

We’ll remember Fred for his love of baseball, love of family, and love of the United States Marine Corps. Joe grew up playing baseball with Fred’s son Ryan and both their dads coached the little league team. After Joe joined the Marine Corps, Joe and Fred shared their appreciation for serving and for understanding what it is to be a Marine.
Fred had this definition of Marine framed and gave it to Joe as a wedding gift. Joe keeps this in his office today, and it will always remind him and his family of the fond memories they shared with Ryan and Fred. He was a great father and coach, and one hell of a Marine. He will be missed.
Semper Fi Devil Dog,
We’ll see you on the other side.

What Is a Marine…
The USMC. Over 232 years of romping, stomping hell, death and destruction. The finest fighting machine the world has ever seen . We were born in a bomb crater.
My mother was an M-16. My father was the devil.
Each moment that I live is an additional threat upon your life.
I am a roughish looking, roving soldier of the sea. I am cocky, self-centered, overbearing and I do not know the meaning of fear, for I am fear itself. I am a green amphibious monster made of blood and guts who arose from the sea. Festering on anti-Americans throughout the globe, wherever it may arise, and when my time comes I'll die a glorious death on the battlefield giving my life to Mom, apple pie, and the American flag.
We stole the eagle form the Air Force, anchor from the Navy, and the rope from the Army, and on the seventh day while God rested, we overran his perimeter and stole the globe and we've been running the show ever since. We live like soldiers, talk like sailors, and slap the hell out of both of them. We are soldiers by day, lovers by night, drunkards by choice, and Marines by God.
