Frederick “Fred” W. Hunsinger
Fred Hunsinger, 74, of Joliet, passed away unexpectedly with his family by his side on Friday, September 13, 2024. Born on October 9, 1949, in Charleston, WV, Fred was the beloved son of the late Woodrow and Betty Hunsinger. A proud veteran, Fred served his country with distinction as a member of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. After his service, he moved to the Chicago area and enjoyed a long career with Certified Grocers, dedicating over 30 years before retiring. Fred was an esteemed member of Teamsters Local 703.
Fred’s life was blessed when he married Debbie Grumstrup on January 4, 1986. They would have celebrated 38 years of marriage this January. Together, they raised three sons—Ryan, Tyler, and Kyle—and made their home in Joliet. Fred was deeply passionate about baseball, finding immense joy in coaching his sons' Little League teams. He was also a devoted fan of the Chicago Bears and Cubs.
Fred is survived by his cherished wife, Debbie Hunsinger; his three sons, Ryan (Ash Blackburn) Hunsinger, Tyler Hunsinger, and Kyle (Liliya Pytel) Hunsinger; his granddaughter, Luciana; and his grandson, Remi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Betty Hunsinger, and his in-laws, Glen and Betty Grumstrup.
A visitation to honor Fred’s memory will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024, at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road (at Essington), Joliet, from 4:00 p.m. until the service begins at 8:00 p.m. In accordance with his wishes, Fred will be cremated following the services. His ashes will be placed in a columbarium at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., where he will be honored with full military rites by the United States Marine Corps.
