Obituary of Lynda C. Freebus
Lynda “Lyn” C. Freebus (nee Arnold)
Lynda C. Freebus, age 78, of Shorewood, IL, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at her home. Lynda was born in Chicago, IL on November 6, 1945, the only child of the late George “Del” and Rose (nee Oliver) Arnold.
Lynda graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School, with the Class of 1963. She attended North Park University from 1963-66 and then went on to become a Registered Nurse through Swedish Covenant Hospital in 1966. Lyn married Robert F. Freebus on September 23, 1967. She continued to work for Swedish Covenant Hospital and then Northwest Hospital until 1970.
Lyn lived in Hanover Park and Schaumburg from 1970-2006. While there, she was active in many clubs and groups, including the American Legion, Jaycee’s, Brownies, Girl Scouts, Boy Scout Leader, Ladies Softball, and the Schaumburg Women’s Club.
She moved to Shorewood Glen in 2006, where she quickly became active in the Girls of the Glen, genealogy, bocce ball, and golf. Lyn was a member of the Joliet Chapter of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), where she served as 2nd Vice Regent (2018-2020) and also served as an IL State Chairman.
She truly enjoyed volunteering for the betterment of the community and loved showing her appreciation for all our local police officers, firemen, and veterans. She was an altruist at heart. Nothing brought Lyn more joy than spending time with her family. She enjoyed spending her winters in Florida with her husband Robert F. Freebus, and they spent 47 happy years together before his passing in September of 2015.
Lyn is survived by her son, Jeffrey (Alexis) Freebus of Huntley; her daughter, Janet (Matthew) Dimke of Westville, IN; five grandchildren, Victoria, Alexandria, and Jason Freebus, Elizabeth (Michael) Fair, Connor Rockensock, and Dominic Dimke; great-grandchildren, Alicen, Scarlett, Silas, Kayden, and Clayton.

At Lyn’s request, cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Road, Elwood, IL on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband. Arrangements entrusted to the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home.
